The Governing Council

The Governing Council is composed of a Chairman who is appointed by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from among the fellows of the profession and nineteen other members who represent the key stakeholders in the advertising industry and other interests. The stakeholders and interests are:

The Governing Council sets out broad policies and guidelines for the operation of APCON and supervises the implementation of its mandates.

Mr. Akinlolu Ademola Akinwunmi, frpa

Chairman, APCON

Mr. Akinlolu Ademola Akinwunmi was born at Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria on September 27, 1958. He attended Comprehensive High School Aiyetero, Ogun State, the Ibadan polytechnic and the University of Lagos. Mr. Akinlolu started his advertising career in Lintas Limited Lagos where he worked as Trainee Client Service Executive 1982, Client Service Executive 1983, Client Service Executive, Full Management 1985 and Senior Client Service Executive 1987.

He moved to Promoserve Grey Limited and worked as Account Director 1988, Associate Director 1989 and Executive Director 1991. Mr. Akinwunmi became the Chief Executive Officer Prima Garnet in 1992 and is now the Group Managing Director of the Prima Garnet Group. Mr. Akinwunmi is Fellow of the advertising profession. He has served the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria in various capacities including member of the Governing Council, member APCON Fundraising Committee, member Advertising Standards Panel and member APCON SecretariatDevelopment Committee. Mr. Akinwunmi was the Pioneer Chief Executive Officer, Federal Government Rebranding Project Business Support Group, the pioneer Secretary, Federal Government Committee on Rebranding Nigeria, past President, Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN) and Board Member, Ogilvy Africa BV. He has many awards including APCON Fellows’ Advertising Award/ Best Advertising Practitioner 2006, Lintas Chairman’s Distinguished Personality in Advertising by the Mass Communication Students’ Association, University of Lagos, 1st City People Award of Excellence: Outstanding Personality of the year 1997 in Advertising/PR sector, Rotract District 9110, Nigeria 2000-2001: Special Vocational Excellence Award and Rotary Club of Illupeju, year 2000/2001 Outstanding Contributor to Economic Growth Award. He is Also Fellow National Council Marketing of Nigeria, Member Institute of Directors, Member international Advertising Association and Member Broad of Trustees, The olive Bloom orphanage. Lolu, as he is formally called, is a prolific writer and has produced over 50 professional papers in advertising and marketing communication

He is married to Josephine Omokhele Akinwunmi and has the hobbies of reading, photography, travelling and watching documentaries.



 
Alhaji Garba Bello Kankarofi, frpa
Council Member & Registrar

Alhaji Garba Bello Kankarofi was born in 1954 at old Kano City.

He attended the popular Bayero University where he graduated with Bachelors of Arts, Mass Communication in 1981 as a pioneer graduate. Indeed, Alhaji Kankarofi’s leadership role started from that University where he later emerged as the first President, Association of Mass Communication Students and Captain of University’s Football Team.

Upon graduation from that University in 1981, his career rose steadily. In 1982, he became a Commercial Officer in the Kano State Broadcasting Corporation. He rose through the corporate ladder to become Principal Commercial Officer (Radio/TV) in 1984. In 1986, he ascended to the position of Controller, Commercial Services and in 1987 became the Commercial Service Manager. He was confirmed the Director of Marketing and Commercial Services (Radio/TV) in 1991 and upgraded to the position of Director of Commercial Services in 1993.

Indeed, Alhaji Kankarofi reached the zenith of his profession when he became the Managing Director, Radio Kano in September, 2003. He is not only a broadcast icon, he is equally an Advertising Practitioner of distinction. Following his contributions to the development of Advertising in Nigeria, the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) bestowed him with the highest honour of Fellowship of the profession in 2004. He is among the pioneer generation of APCON members and his presence is recognized at the General Assembly of Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria (BON). Alhaji Kankarofi is a first among equals and boasts of being Member of the International Advertising Association (IAA) from the northern Nigeria and the only Fellow in Radio and Television.



 
Mrs. Bunmi Cole
Council Member  

Born about fifty-two years ago in Benin City, Bunmi Cole (nee Martins) had her first and second degrees at the University of Lagos; Akoka. She started her broadcasting career at the then Ogun Radio as a News Editor.  In 1983, she joined the Nigerian Television Authority where she worked in News and Current Affairs Division.  During her employment with the NTA she rose to the level of Controller Marketing before transferring her service to the National Broadcasting Commission where she is a Deputy Director, and the Zonal Director of the Commission in Ibadan.

Mr. Tolu Ogunkoya, frpa
Council Member

Mr. Tolulope G. Ogunkoya was born in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria on December 12, 1966. He holds a B.Sc degree from the University of Ilorin and is also a graduate of the Lagos Business School (LSB)

He began his advertising career at Insight Communications and rose from Management Trainee (1990) to Media Executive 1991 and then Senior Media Executive (1992). Mr. Ogunkoya also worked in SO&U Saatchi & Saatchi where he rose from Manager to Associate Director between 1992 to 1999.

He is currently the Regional Managing Director, MediaReach OMD and a Fellow of the advertising profession.

 


 
Mr. Funmi Onabolu, frpa
Council Member

Mr. Funmi Onabolu was born on April 20, 1958. He graduated Bachelor of Arts from the University of Ife in 1978. He has had career spanning broadcasting and marketing communications. He had a brief stint at NTA Abeokuta as Presenter/Producer between 1979 and 1980. Mr. Onabolu was also a pioneer staff at Lagos Television, Ikeja where he worked as Producer, Presenter and Newscaster. He went into Advertising in January 1982, joining Insight Communications. Mr. Onabolu became the first General Manager and Chief Operating Officer of the company in 1989 and was invited to the board in 1991. He rose to the position of Executive Director until he left in June 1995. He founded Cosse in 1995. Other companies within the Cosse Group include; Towncriers Limited, Video Lab Limited, Prochannel , Audio Lab Limited, Media Integra and Design Forge. Mr. Onabolu, serves on APCON Financial Committee and served on the board of AAPN in many capacities since 1986.

He is a Fellow of the advertising profession, member of the International Institute of Marketing, International Special Event Society and is on the Board of Trustees of Culture Conservation Foundation of Nigeria and National Association of Tour Operators (NATOP)

Mr. Segun Olaleye, rpa
Council Member
 

Mr. Segun Olaleye was born November 23, 1950. He holds the Higher National Diploma in Public Finance and certificates in financial management and business management, Nigeria and Oxford, UK respectively.

Olaleye started his working career at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, Ibadan, as Accounting Executive. In 1976, he moved to Ogun Radio, Abeokuta as Manager Credit Control. He joined Ogun State Television in 1982 as Head of Finance. He later joined Insight Communications in 1992 as Credit Control Manager. He has also worked as General Manager Ogun State Television and Regional Affiliate Relations Manager TV Africa, South Africa. Mr. Olaleye is the former Chief Executive Officer of Gateway Television Abeokuta. He is Member, Heads of Advertising Sectoral Group, Nigeria, member Nigeria Institute of Management, member Central Working Committee of Broadcasting Organizations of Nigeria and Chairman, Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria, South-West Zone.



 
Idy Enang,arpa
Council Member  

Mr. Idorenyen Enang was born on May 27, 1966 in Lagos. He holds Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree in Economics and Master of Science (MBA) degree, Marketing ESUT Business School. Mr. Enang has had a successful career in marketing. In 2000, he joined Coca Cola East and Central Africa as Country Marketing Manager. He rose to Strategic Planning and Business Development  Manager in 2002, Executive Assistant to the President in 2004 and Franchise Manager in 2006.

In 2007, Enang moved to Cadbury Nigeria Plc as Commercial Director. He was in Cadbury until 2010 when he became the Managing Director, Samsung Nigeria. Mr. Enang is the immediate past president of Advertisers Association of Nigeria, ADVAN, and recently installed the Vice President, World Federation of Advertisers (WFA).


 
Mr. Bankole Ademulegun, frpa
Council Member

Mr. Bankole Adeyemi Ademulegun was born on July 20, 1953. He is a graduate of Kaduna Polytechnic and Institute of Commerce, London. His advertising career started in 1980 when he was appointed Client Service Manager, Grant Advertising Limited. In 1984 he moved to Media Link Limited as Executive Director. He is currently the Managing Director, Media Link Limited.

 

Mr. Ademulegun, Fellow of the advertising profession has served the advertising industry in different capacities. He is member APCON Governing Council and Chairman of the APIP. He is the former President of Outdoor Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (OAAN) and member IAA, Nigeria Chapter.


 

Mr. Rasheed Adegbenro
Council Member

Mr. Rasheed Adegbenro studied mass communications and marketing at the University of Lagos in 1978 and 1996 respectively. He practiced as a print and electronic journalist and worked for the Daily Sketch Publishing Company Limited and the Nigerian Television Authority among other media establishments. He was appointed the Public Relations Manager of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) in 1981. He joined the management of Volkswagen of Nigeria Limited as Public Relations Manager in 1989 and rose to the position of Assistant General Manager, Sales and Public Relations. Mr. Adegbenro rejoined MAN in 1997 as Head of Corporate Affairs and was appointed Assistant Director, Corporate Affairs in 2006 with responsibility for public and media relations, marketing and human capital development programmes for member-companies of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria.


 

Ade Akinde, frpa
Council Member

Mr. Adenrele Babatunde Akinde was born on January 5, 1954 at Alagomeji Yaba, Lagos. He has the CAM foundation diploma in Advertising Management from College for Distributive Trade, London. He also holds an MBA in Advertising and Public Relationsof the ESUT Business School.

Mr. Akinde became a member of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies having completed a year course.

He started his advertising career at Grant Advertising Nigeria in 1984. In 1986 he moved to become a founding staff of LTC Advertising. Mr. Akinde left LTC Advertising as Associate Director, Client Service, Media Research and Strategic Planning in 1993. In 1994, he established Campaign Palace Limited where he is currently the CEO.

He is a Fellow of the advertising profession and current chairman, Advertising Standards Panel (ASP).


 

Longley Evru, frpa
Council Member

Mr. Longley Evru was born on March 23, 1957. He is a graduate of University of Ibadan where he also obtained the Master of Arts degree, in 1985. Mr. Evru started his advertising career at Insight Communications in 1986. He rose to become the Account Director before he was seconded to The Quadrant Company, a foremost public relations consultancy as General Manager/ Executive

Director. Mr. Evru established Angels Communications in 1997 and has remained the

Managing Director/CEO to date. He has played active roles in the advertising business both in AAAN and APCON. He is a Fellow of the profession, member, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), member, Nigerian Institute of Marketing, member IPR and member International Advertising Association (IAA).



 

Mr. Willy Nnorom, frpa
Council Member

Mr. Wilfred Ihejirika Nnorom was born on May 5, 1955. He is a graduate of Mass Communication, University of Nigeria Nsukka. Mr. Nnorom has diverse experience in advertising and public relations. He was Public Relations Officer, NYSC Secretariat Enugu, 1979; Copywriter MAAN Limited, Enugu, 1980, Account Director MAAN Limited, 1981, Creative Director, MAAN Limited, 1982, General Manager, MAAN Limited, 1983, Marketing Director, Femost Breweries Limited, 1984. He is currently the Managing Director, Reads and Marks Limited and adjunct lecturer in Mass Communication, Enugu State University of Science and Technology.

Mr. Nnorom is Fellow of the advertising profession, member, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), member, American Academy of Advertising and member, International Advertising Association (IAA). He is currently chairman, APCON Committee on Advertising Practice Reforms (ACAPR).


 

Garbriel Abah, frpa

Council member

Mr. Gabriel U. N. Abah was born in Vom, Benue State. He is a graduate of the Bolton Institute of Technology and holds an MBA Marketing, Delta State University, Abraka. He started his advertising career in 1990 as Senior Account Director, Insight Communications. In 1995 he moved to MC&A as Associate Director and head of Client Service. He is currently Managing Director/CEO, Solutions Communications.

Mr. Abah has served AAPN as Publicity Secretary and is currently, Council Member of AAAN. He is also member, APCON Council and sits on its APDC. He is a Fellow of the advertising profession.


 

Mr. Lekan O. Fadolapo, rpa
Council Member

Lekan O. Fadolapo is a graduate of Economics from Ogun State University, Ago-iwoye and holds a Master of Business Administration Degree (MBA) from Federal University of Technology, Akure.  An Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.  Olalekan Fadolapo is an Associate Registered Practitioner (arpa).  He is currently the Executive Director/CEO of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN).
